Be Not Afraid

For Spiritual Sunday I'm sharing a song that was sung at our church tonight. It is one of my favorite songs and I have felt God speaking to me many times when this song has been sung.

Here are the words:

Be Not Afraid

You shall cross the barren desert
But you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety
Thought you do not know the way.
You shall speak your words in foreign lands
And all will understand.
You shall see the face of God and live.

Be not afraid.
I go before you always.
Come, follow me,
And I will give you rest.

If you pass through raging waters in the sea,
You shall not drown.
If you walk amid the burning flames,
You shall not be harmed.
If you stand before the power of hell
And death is at your side,
Know that I am with you through it all.
Be not afraid.
I go before you always.

Come, follow me,
And I will give you rest.

Blessed are your poor,
For the kingdom shall be theirs.
Blest are you that weep and mourn,
For one day you shall laugh.
And if wicked tongues insult and hate you
All because of me,
Blessed, blessed are you!

Be not afraid.
I go before you always.
Come, follow me,
And I will give you rest.

Psalm 91 - Under His wing we surely have nothing to fear. Thank God we don't and that we know we don't.

Fear & faith cannot occupy the same area - a double minded man is unstable in all his ways, as the Word proclaims.

What an absolutely wonderful song. I have never heard this before. It's late here in Arizona and I am getting ready for bed. I will go there with peace in my heart and I will not be afraid. I know He is watching over me. Thank you for this good post.

Dear Katherine -
I've not heard this song before so I sat here at my computer and read the music and sang it along from the screen. What wonderful words and I'm so glad to be able to sing the melody. Thank you for sharing it with us. What a comfort to know that we don't have to be afraid because HE is with us and we are safe.

I used to teach this tune when I was teaching in a Catholic ele./ HS. I played it so many times that, 30 yrs. later, I still remember most of the lyrics. We also sing it in church. It is truly a beautiful tune....and lyrics! Thanks for reminding me!!
